[To American speaker and guests]

First of all, I would like to thank you for your knowledge,
your sympathy to the cause of Vietnam. I recognize some American friends here,
so I ‘d like to recognize you, and thank you so much if any of you fought in
the Vietnam war. I remember when I was young, so many Americans came to Vietnam
to help us out.

We lost the war but we did not lose the cause. The cause is
still there. And I believe, one day, the blood of Americans shed in Vietnam
soil will be honored openly and publicly. One day, we will have a monument to
honor those sacrificed, a monument will be built in Vietnam. So, I just would
like to thank you for your contribution to the freedom of Vietnam.

The war ended in 1975 but the fight for freedom continued,
and we will continue until Vietnam is fully restored freedom and democracy.

[To young Vietnamese Americans]

You are very lucky. If you were born 40 years ago, like Khải
or many in middle age generations, your life was very difficult.

One thing you should never forget, each generation has their
own responsibilities for the country.

Seventy years ago, your grandfather, your father fought very
hard. In my generation, I do my job here, trying to send the messages from
older generations to you. But one day, Vietnam becomes freedom or not,
depending a lot on your efforts.

Do not ever forget one thing that Vietnamese community is
very much different from the other communities. People from Iceland, Scotland,
Italy …when they left their country to come to the US, the only thing in their
mind is building their future. They have the past, but they do not carry the
past along. They were heading to the future of their own, the future of their
life.

But your parents are different, your grandparent is
different. We carry the country. We carry the dream of those people who did not
finish in their life. We try to complete that dream.

Vietnam will be free. One day, you do everything you can to
return the hardship your parents had to be suffering for so many years.

I want to tell you a story that I just read.

Latvia is a country very far from us. Estonia is a country
very far from us. Their countries are just about two million people, and how
can they become independent? Not only independence, but they became democratic
countries, very powerful economic countries, and most important thing is they
got away from Russia ‘s domination for so many years.

Because their young generations continued the tradition to
fight for freedom.

I remember in 1990, a story like this. When Latvia became
free. A reporter from New York Times came over to interview the young people
“how do you think about when your country became free?” One twenty year old
girl answered, “Nothing, nothing is important. That was normal. Latvia is
always independent. I learnt that from my parents, my grandparent. “

Most people who fought for freedom of Latvia were never born
in a free country. Only chance that country democratic was 1918. Eighty years
before the country became independent, so none of them were ever born in the
free time, in the republic time. But they carry the responsibilities in their life.
They learnt history from their parents, and they know what to do.

Most people who protested against Soviet Union do not know
much about freedom, because most of their life was under communism. But the
only thing they have in their mind that Latvia is independent and Latvia was a
democratic country.

Same thing to you.

You were born in this country. But do not forget that, do
not forget that, when your parents came here, it was so difficult. Many parents
had to work at minimum wage to raise you up.

What you have today. You became engineers, you became
doctors, you became Ph. D. All of you have it now, not easy. Very hard. We
lived through such a difficult time, so immense time.

So do not forget that, and please continue to do anything
you can to build your community here, to support for the freedom fighting going
on now at this time in Vietnam.

Whatever you do now will be carried to the next generations.
Like I said, my brothers are sitting here, they did everything they could. They
did not complete their goal. But the goal has never stopped. The goal carried
to my generation. And as long as I live in this world I will continue to fight
for freedom of Vietnam.

The life of a person goes away very quickly. Just like a
leaf dropping off a tree. But the tree is still there. The tree never dies. So
please do anything you can to help out.

Because we got to die one day, and you will grow up, and you
may go away some days, your children grow up. But the water of the river is
still running. Running in your mind just like Vietnamese history.

We fought so hard in thousand years. There was no internet
by that time. No Facebook by that time. Nothing. One village to another takes
days and days to get over. But our ancestors still fought hard, and Vietnam is
an independent country.

So, please do anything, anything you can. Get together. You
do not need to do big ones. You do not need to do big projects. Just a little
thing, just a drop of water. Drops of water make a river. Drops of water make
an ocean. Do not try anything too big. Try a little thing in a small community,
small house, small village, and one day Vietnam will become freedom again.

Thank you
